Joey Kelly
|
He’s a man of extremes: Not only Germany knows Joey Kelly primarily as a highly successful musician since he became famous as a member of the Kelly Family in the early 1990ies. But meanwhile, very personable and down-to-earth Joey – by the way born in Spain with Irish-American roots – especially draws public attention through his outstanding performance as an extreme athlete. So he finished, for instance, no less than eight Ironman Triathlons within one year – a unique performance that nobody else ever managed before! Like creating and performing music over many previous years, different ultra competitions are now a permanent and important part of Joey’s life. Whether desert runs over 240 km (“Marathon des Sables”), 217 Death Valley kilometres at 50 °C (“Badwater Ultra Marathon”) or crazy challenges such as running 100 km against a horse: Joey Kelly stops at nothing while he is always looking for new possibilities to expand his personal limits. Cycling events have been the 38-year-old’s recent major focus: As a bike team member, he finished the “Race Across America” (5.000 km between the US American east and west coasts) even three times. Within the “Trans Oz Bike Ride”, Joey and two fellow riders absolved a total distance of 3.600 km. And together with his female pedalling partner Sunny Seecamp, he won the 24-hour Duisburg MTB race in 2007! From the 2011 season, CENTURION supports Joey Kelly whenever he wants to tackle extreme two-wheeled challenges. Joey’s schedule includes, for example, a repeated participation in the “24 Hours of Duisburg”. Hopefully given that this man of extremes endures all upcoming projects without problems – as until August 2010, he is going to continue a planned survival project with Ruediger Nehberg and intends to spend some time at the South Pole. In addition, there might be also some new Stefan Raab events…
