City Speed
|
While cars often get stuck in city traffic, bike traffic is growing continuously – and with it a very heterogeneous bike culture. Since many years, bike travel operators offer genuine pedalling tourism in big cities because many attractions can be reached best by cycling. And when a British TV magazine organized a “fun race” through London, the bike scored a hands-down victory – against the car, public transportation and even a speedboat which roared across the Thames. CENTURION offers the two-wheeler of choice for urban pro riders. For those who would probably prefer to omit everything beyond the pure archetype of a bike. |
Lights, fenders, kickstand, bell and rack: Unnecessary for an urban pro. Shifting system: Also unimportant in most cases. However, less ambitious urban pros can purchase our City Speed also with a good 8-speed gear hub. But real tough riders dash through the urban jungle only with a single-speed configuration. And the toughest guys of all turn their rear wheel around: The single gear is maintained – but without freewheel to get a so-called “fixie”! As a matter of course, also this crazy idea comes from the USA: Around 1930, six day races (an ultra-weird import event from Europe back then) took place at the famous Madison Square Garden in New York City. Winners were the German athletes Kilian/Vopel on their track cycling machines. These were copied by enthused Americans who did not know anything else – and then sent directly into the US traffic. Well, and now they are back in Europe again! |
