Our Gigadrive has been extremely popular for many years. But in 2011, this well-proven carbon road racer gives way to a real futurist: Our Megadrive! This CENTURION carbon machine with aero design enters the competition for the world’s best road rocket – with no-compromise ambitions to win! For the 2011 road season, our R&D experts pursued a demanding task: The development of a road model setting benchmarks with respect to current stiffness, comfort and weight standards while also being a welcome alternative to the visual monotony of so many other bikes. We realized this development objective by a superb symbiosis which combines the genes of our long-established Gigadrive with those of our high-tech Triathlon machine Overdrive. A frame weight of approx. 1.000 g and a brilliantly adapted full-carbon fork of just 330 g define the Megadrive as top choice for “weight fetishists” – especially given the fact that the tube cross-sections of our semi-aero Megadrive design are considerably larger than those of conventionally shaped road frames. The carbon material mix of Ultra High Modulus (UHM), High Modulus (HM) and Intermediate (IM) fibres bases on a specific matrix. This matrix is aligned optimally according to the load profiles of the respective application areas. Afterwards, the single frame elements are connected either via internal lug connection or “Tube-to-Tube” technology. The resulting “Structure Element” carbon frame features a down tube which is additionally reinforced by “Double Chamber” technology – a transverse rib construction for enhanced bending stiffness. The elaborate manufacturing process culminates in head tube and BB stiffness data far beyond the actual “cycling range” – ideal preconditions for outstanding acceleration efficiency and running smoothness. But despite the propulsion-orientated design, our Megadrive is surprisingly comfortable! This is enabled by a superb seat post – aerodynamically shaped but filtering high-frequency vibrations very efficiently via special “Bio Flax” carbon fibres. Thus, the pilot enjoys top comfort also on long tours. Also top: Although its design resembles a continuous “seating dome”, the seat post is fully adjustable and therefore usable in a well-proven way. So finally and first of all, our new Megadrive is one of the most beautiful machines for fast and long road rides in 2011! |
