Float Link

For many years, CENTURION MTBs have been renowned for their LRS rear stay system: Our durable and low-maintenance “Low Ratio Suspension” propelled pilots along the trails in a sensitive and drivetrain-neutral way. For MY 2011, we reduce our range of LRS fullies in favour of Float Link – a wise decision?

Absolutely! Because our 100 and 120 mm fullies Backfire Float and Numinis Float also offer all advantages of a supported single-pivot construction being familiar from LRS – but enhanced by the fact that suitability for daily use has been improved once again! In contrast to the well-known CENTURION LRS rear stay system, our new Float Link bikes feature shocks with standard installation lengths. So while both systems are basically comparable with respect to functionality and advantages (e. g. response performance), the new Float Link provides another plus: For maintenance and/or repair purposes, bike retailers are no longer obliged to stock shocks and spare parts specifically manufactured for CENTURION. Instead, they are able to use components from their standard range now. A great advantage – certainly not only for MTB riders following the trails of CENTURION CEO Wolfgang Renner across the Alps…

Standard Dimensions
Float Link utilizes shocks with standarddimensions – top performance at great service and maintenance quality.

Technical Lexicon

Supported Single-Pivot
At first sight, the CENTURION Float Link rear stay looks similar to a quad-pivot system while basing on the concept of a single-pivot construction with supported suspension strut receiver: Rear stay and main frame are linked via a single pivot. In addition, a rocker link connects the shock to the seat stays. Advantage of this construction is its generally simple structure with few maintenance/service points. While traditional single-pivot systems often lack convincing rear stay stiffness, the latter is perceptibly enhanced by the shock support. The Float Link rear stay moves circularly under suspension compression and responds sensitively also to weaker impacts. But due to its special concept, the construction provides drivetrain-neutrality as far as possible – even without platform-damped suspension elements!

Installation Length
The rear stays of full-suspension MTBs normally feature shock elements with installation lengths between 165 and 200 mm. LRS is different: From 2011, all custom-made special sizes (320–340 mm) are replaced – with two exceptions – by standard lengths with better availability.
